About ManaEon
ManaEon is a private, non-commercial fan project: a table in the browser where two to five friends play Magic: The Gathering in the Commander format, with preconstructed decks and automatic rules checking. It is free of charge, shows no advertising and sells nothing.
The site runs on a server of the operator and is meant for a private group of players only: whoever wants to join creates an account with an email address, a player name and a password or plays as a guest. After that you can open tables for 2–5 players, invite friends by link or watch. The rules are carried out by the open-source engine XMage; deck lists, card texts and game plans are stored on the server.

Privacy policy
In short: No tracking, no analytics, no advertising, no social media plugins and no fonts, scripts or images embedded from other providers: everything your browser loads for the game comes from this server. Only what the game needs is stored: your player name, your settings, your own decks and your games.
Controller
The controller responsible for data processing on this site within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the operator named in the legal notice above:
ManaEonExample Street 1
12345 Example City
E-mail: manaeon.info@gmail.com
Visiting the site and the server
When you visit the site, your browser sends technically necessary data to the server: your IP address, the date and time, the address requested and details of your browser and operating system. The application uses this data only to answer the request and writes no access logs with IP addresses. Error messages of the application are logged without an IP address. To protect against misuse, the server counts sign-in attempts and requests per sign-in only briefly, in its working memory.
Depending on how it is run, the server is reachable through a service on the internet, for example Tailscale Funnel (Tailscale Inc., Canada/USA) or a hosting provider. Tailscale Funnel forwards the encrypted connection through Tailscale's servers and receives your IP address and connection data, but not the content: the encryption only ends on the operator's computer. If the server runs at a hosting provider, it stands in that provider's data centre: the provider gives the operator the computer and the network, the stored data lies there too, and the encryption ends on this server. At manaeon.app that is netcup GmbH (Germany) with a data centre in the EU; it processes the data on our behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). The privacy notices of these services apply in addition.
Cookies
The site sets only its own, technically necessary cookies. Scripts cannot read them (HttpOnly), they are only sent to this site (SameSite=Strict) and they contain random identifiers, no plain-text data:
mc-profile– signs you in with your account or as a guest. Valid for 30 days from its last use or until “Switch player”; as a guest, signing out also ends your guest profile.mc-device– remembers that you have signed in on this device before, so that you can still sign in while someone is trying to guess your password. It holds a check value computed from your account. Valid for a year or until you change your password.
Because these cookies are strictly necessary for the service you asked for, they need no consent (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG).
Account and guest profile
For an account you enter your email address, confirm it with a code we send you by email, and choose a player name and a password. The server stores the address and only a check value (hash) of the password, not the password itself. We use the address only for the code, for resetting your password and for notes about your account, not for advertising; other players do not see it. An account from before this change signs in once more with its access code and then sets up an address and a password; after that the code no longer works. You change your address and your password in your profile’s settings; this signs out your other devices.
At manaeon.app we send codes and account notices through the service Resend (Resend, Inc., USA). Resend receives your email address and the content of the message for this, and data may be transferred to the USA. We send no advertising.
As a guest you only choose a name. Only this browser knows your guest profile, through its cookie, and you can save up to three decks of your own. If you sign out or do not come back for 30 days, the guest profile is deleted with everything that belongs to it. You can turn a guest profile into an account at any time and keep everything.
A file on the server stores for an account or a guest profile: the name, when the profile was created and when you last signed in, your settings (card language, chosen card printings and commanders per deck, default deck, favourite decks, the deck of your profile picture, card size, colour scheme, priority and stop settings) and your match history: table name, fellow players with their names and decks, start and end, result and game statistics such as spells cast and cards played. Every sign-in, every new account, every new guest profile and every change of address or password is noted with time, profile identifier and name in a sign-in log that the operator reads on the host page and directly on the server; its entries are deleted after 30 days. Feel free to choose a pseudonym as your name.
Tables and games
Tables, seats and running games exist only in the server's working memory. Your fellow players and spectators see your name, your deck and your moves; every signed-in player sees public tables in the table list. A table at which nobody has played for 24 hours is closed; a restart of the server ends all running games.
Your own decks
Decks you create in the deckbuilder are stored by the server with your profile: name, commander, card list and when you created and last changed the deck. Only you see the card list, and whoever sits at or watches a table where you play the deck: everyone there needs its cards to show them, and the game's cheat sheet shows its list. You can delete an own deck at any time in the deck overview or in the deckbuilder.
If you share a deck with the community in the deckbuilder, every player of this server sees its name, its commander, its card list and your player name as the one who built it under “Decks” › “Community”, and they can play it at their tables. Only you can still change or delete it. You stop sharing at any time with the same button in the deckbuilder, or by deleting the deck; after that it can no longer be seen, and only games that have already begun play it to the end.
If you import a deck list via a link from Scryfall, the server fetches the public list there itself; no data about you is transferred.
Notifications
Your notifications sit beside your profile in the dock. For them the server stores with your profile: invitations to a table with the names of the host and the table, which of the cards you wanted are playable now, what changed in your own decks and which notifications you have read or removed. To notice such changes, the server remembers for each of your own decks whether its cards were playable and a checksum of their card text. Notifications are deleted after 30 days, an invitation also as soon as its table no longer waits.
When you invite someone to your table, you see the names of the players with an account you have shared a table with; you find any other account only by its full name. Guest profiles do not appear there. Every player sees the host’s announcements, for example of maintenance.
Wanted cards
If you wish for a card the engine cannot play yet, or an import or your saved deck leaves such a card out, the server notes your profile identifier with that card and a checksum of the deck, without its name. Under “Next Cards” everybody sees only how many players and decks want a card. When the card becomes playable, your notifications tell you.
Reports
If you report a fellow player through “Report” in the lobby, the server stores your profile identifier and your name, the reported player, the table, the reason and, if you write one, your text. The operator and the admins and moderators they appoint read the report on the host page; the reported player does not learn who sent it. A handled report is deleted after 30 days; if you delete your account, your name leaves your reports.
Storage in the browser
Your browser remembers some settings itself (localStorage and sessionStorage) so that they apply at once: card language and chosen card printings, card size, table layout and table design, how animations are shown, sound and volume, dismissed hints, the view of the deck list, the position of the table history and which patch notes you have already seen; for the length of a session also the order of the cards in your hand, whether you have tucked your hand away, which battlefield you have pinned, whether you closed the notice of maintenance at the table, your player name for the dock and, briefly while you switch pages, where the dock's marker was. These values do not leave your browser unless you explicitly save them in your profile. You can delete them at any time in your browser's settings.
Card images and card data
All card images, card texts, printings and rulings are stored on this server, and your browser loads them only from here. The card data comes with the game. After its first start the server downloads the card images once by itself from Scryfall's image servers (cards.scryfall.io, Scryfall, LLC, USA) and keeps them; no data about you is transferred. As long as an image is still missing, the card's name stands in its place.
Links to Scryfall, Gatherer, EDHREC or the pages of the illustrators only open when you click them. The site passes on no referring address.
Legal bases
We process accounts and guest profiles, your own decks, tables, games, notifications, wanted cards and match history to provide the game you use (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). The sign-in log, reports, the limiting of requests and the technical operation of the server serve the legitimate interest in a secure and stable service (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Cookies and browser storage are technically necessary (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG).
Storage period and recipients
For a new address we check whether its domain belongs to a throwaway mail service, and ask the DNS for its mail servers to do so. If the server's team bans an email address, for example over abuse, it stays with the player name and the time on a ban list that only admins and the operator see until the ban is lifted, even if the account is deleted.
An account remains stored until you delete it in your profile’s settings or the operator ends the service; a guest profile until you sign out or do not come back for 30 days. Deleting removes the profile with its sign-ins, your own decks, your notifications, your wishes and your entries in the sign-in log; in the others’ games your seat remains as “Deleted player”, without a name. The last 250 games are shown. A sign-in ends 30 days after its last use, and the server clears expired sign-ins daily. We pass no data to third parties, except to the service through which the server is reachable (see above; it may be based in the USA), and to the mail provider through which the server sends emails: it receives your address and the text of the email in question. There is no automated decision-making or profiling.
Your rights
You have the right of access to your stored data (Art. 15 GDPR), to rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). You may object to processing based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21). Simply write to the contact address above. You can also download your data yourself in your profile’s settings, and delete your account there. Without a sign-in we match a request to an account only if it comes from that account’s email address; a guest profile or an account without an address cannot be reliably matched to anyone without a sign-in (Art. 11 and Art. 12 (6) GDPR).
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the authority where you live or of the German state in which the operator lives.
Nutzungsbedingungen
Die Karten selbst gehören Wizards of the Coast (siehe Fan Content).
Terms of use
In short: Play fair, choose names that hurt nobody, and keep your password secret. ManaEon is free and comes without guarantees; whoever breaks the rules can lose their account.
The service
ManaEon is a free, non-commercial fan project. There is no claim that the server is reachable or that a game can be finished; a restart or maintenance ends running games. The operator may change or end the service at any time.
Who plays
You may play from the age of 16, younger only with your parents’ permission. With “Create account” or “Play as a guest” you agree to these terms.
Your account
Your password is your key: whoever knows it plays with your account. Give it to nobody and change it if you think somebody knows it. If you forget it, you set a new one with a code by email, so keep your address up to date. If you can no longer reach that either, the operator usually cannot give your account back, because they cannot check that it is yours. A guest profile ends when you sign out or after 30 days without a visit.
Rules at the table
- Player, table and deck names insult nobody, contain no hate, no sexual content and no advertising, and do not pretend to be somebody else.
- You treat your fellow players with respect.
- You play yourself: no scripts or programs that play for you or flood the server with requests, no attacks on the server and no exploiting of bugs. If you find a bug, tell the operator.
Reports and consequences
If somebody breaks these rules, report them through “Report” in the lobby or write to the contact address in the legal notice. The operator checks every report and may delete accounts and guest profiles that break the rules, and with them their tables and decks; whoever reports others falsely on purpose breaks them too.
Your decks
Your decks and names remain yours. You only allow the operator to store them and to show them to the others at the table as far as the game needs it. If you share a deck with the community, you allow every player of this server to look at it and play it at their tables until you stop sharing it. The cards themselves belong to Wizards of the Coast (see Fan Content).
Liability and changes
The operator is liable without limit for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health; otherwise liability for this free service is excluded as far as the law allows. If these terms change, the patch notes say so.

Quellen & Lizenzen
- Apache License 2.0: Apache Commons Lang, Guava, Gson, Error Prone Annotations, J2ObjC Annotations, JSpecify, PrettyTime, reload4j
- MIT-Lizenz: jsoup, SLF4J
- ISC-Lizenz: ORMLite
- Mozilla Public License 2.0: H2 Database
Sources & licences
Card data and images
Card images, printings, Oracle texts, format legality, official rulings and the mana and action symbols come from Scryfall. Card data and symbols come with the game; this server downloads the card images once by itself, and everything is shown from here. Scryfall has no connection to this project. The deck lists follow the official lists of Wizards of the Coast and were checked against the lists of MTGJSON (MIT licence); nine of them name the MTG Wiki as their source, whose content is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. The game plans are our own summaries and assessments; the EDHREC guides used are linked for each deck.
Recommendations from EDHREC
The recommendations in the deckbuilder, the average decks, the pairings of two commanders, the trending cards, similar commanders and similar cards come from EDHREC, with its permission. The server only asks EDHREC when you open the recommendations or a card, and names only the chosen card, bracket or strategy, no data about you. EDHREC has no connection to this project.
Combos and bracket from Commander Spellbook
The combos in your deck, the combos one card away and the combo and card checks behind the bracket come from Commander Spellbook. The server asks Commander Spellbook when you open the “Bracket” tab in the deckbuilder or save a deck, and sends only the card names of the deck, no data about you. The look of the bracket follows the Commander Spellbook site (source code under the MIT licence, © 2020 Commander-Spellbook). Commander Spellbook has no connection to this project.
Rules engine XMage
The rules are carried out by XMage, under the MIT licence. Its files remain unchanged; a program of our own beside it corrects individual cards while the game runs and adds cards that XMage does not know yet. The licence does not cover card images and symbols.
Computer opponents after Forge
The computer opponents decide after the model of Forge: their card evaluation is an adapted port from Forge, the rest of the code follows its structure. Like Forge, this part is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. The Forge team does not endorse this project.
Typefaces
The pages are set in EB Garamond and Source Sans 3, both under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
Software the engine runs on
XMage and our own program beside it run in Java with these libraries, each unchanged and under its own licence:
- Apache License 2.0: Apache Commons Lang, Guava, Gson, Error Prone Annotations, J2ObjC Annotations, JSpecify, PrettyTime, reload4j
- MIT licence: jsoup, SLF4J
- BSD licence: Protocol Buffers, JSPF and the jCores it contains; ClassWorlds under the licence of The Werken Company (classworlds.werken.com)
- ISC licence: ORMLite
- Mozilla Public License 2.0: H2 Database
ManaEon itself is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. If you run the server yourself, you find the licence texts in the container image under /app/licenses and the source code of our own Java program under /app/integration/xmage-gateway/src.
